Why Cleaning & Inspection Access Matters

When ductwork cannot be accessed, areas may go uninspected and uncleaned.

Without Adequate Access

Long run of grease-lined commercial kitchen ductwork in Sydney, reached with a brush head and vacuum hose
  • Duct sections may be difficult or impossible to inspect
  • Grease build-up can go undetected
  • Limited cleaning-tool access
  • Higher fire risk from unremoved grease
  • Harder to maintain accurate records

With Suitable Access Panels

  • Improved inspection access
  • Improved cleaning-tool access
  • Easier internal photography
  • Better maintenance records
  • Supports compliance and due diligence
  • Helps manage fire risk associated with grease

Where Access Panels Are Installed

  • Changes in direction (bends, elbows)
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Vertical risers
  • Before & after exhaust fans
  • Filter sections
  • Transitions and tapers
  • Before discharge where practical

Access Panel Selection

Access Panels + Duct Cleaning

We often identify access limitations during exhaust inspections or cleaning. Installing access panels enables more effective cleaning of sections that were previously inaccessible.

FAQ

Access Panel Questions

What Sydney operators ask before approving panel installation.
A duct section with no access cannot be inspected, cleaned or honestly signed off. Grease keeps building in exactly the place nobody can see, which leaves you with a fire risk in the ceiling and a gap in your maintenance records. Access panels turn an unreachable duct into one that can be cleaned and evidenced.
Yes, kitchen exhaust ductwork must have access openings provided so the system can be cleaned and inspected, and AS 1668.1 sets out where those openings go and how they are constructed. We assess your run against the standard during the survey and tell you exactly what is required rather than quoting a generic package.
That depends on the length and layout of the run, because panels must sit at the correct intervals and at every change of direction. A compact café kitchen in The Rocks and a multi-level club duct in Campbelltown are very different runs. We survey the ductwork first and quote a specific number and set of positions rather than guessing.
No, Panels are cut cleanly, fitted to size and sealed so the duct keeps its integrity and grease cannot escape into ceiling voids or wall cavities. Done properly, an access door strengthens your compliance position rather than compromising the system. Done badly, it leaks which is why the cut and the seal matter as much as the panel itself.
In most cases, Yes, We work after service, overnight or on your quietest day, whichever suits the venue. The work area is sheeted and protected before cutting starts, and the space is cleaned down before we leave. Kitchens are handed back ready for service, not covered in swarf.
A straightforward two or three panel job is usually a single visit of a few hours. Sites that need ceiling access, roof plant work or fire-rated reinstatement take longer, and that is stated in the quote before the booking is made. You will not get a call from site asking for more time or more money.
Yes, Insulation and fire-rated construction are reinstated as part of the job so the duct returns to its original specification. This is assessed during the survey, because it changes both the method and the price, and it is the detail most commonly missed in a cheap quote.
We include ceiling access and reinstatement in the quote where it is needed. Tiles, hatches and panels are made good afterwards. In offices, aged care and school kitchens this is often the bulk of the work, so it is priced up front rather than treated as an extra.
Usually yes, and we would recommend it. Once the panels are in, the duct is open, so cleaning it in the same visit saves a second shutdown and gives you before and after photographs from the first service onwards.
Yes, You receive a panel location schedule, photographs of the duct interior at each new opening, and a dated report of the completed works. Your maintenance file, your insurer and your fire safety assessor can see exactly what was fitted, where it sits and what condition the ductwork was in on the day.
